She gets to the site as early as 5am every day. Initially, she used to do her cooking at home. This means that she would wake up as early as 3am to start her cooking so that her meals are ready before 7am. The site engineer now advised her to bring her ingredients to site instead of staying at home to cook.
When asked how and why she started this business, she told me her father used to supply water to the site. She claimed she was an apprentice in Benin City where she was learning hairdressing. She had to come back home because she couldn't raise N10,000.00 ($45.00) to pay for her certificate as a proof of completion of the training. She completed her training in 2013 and has since remained at home doing nothing.
She started this business with N1,000.00 ($4.50c) and takes home N5,000.00 ($22.50c) daily. With smiles, she says that she's been able to save funds for her certificate. She would remain on site until the completion of the building.
